A Conversation with Arick Gevorkian

In this deeply moving episode of Real Talk, I had the honor of sitting with Arick Gevorkian—poet, diplomat, and a man whose wisdom transcends titles. Together, we dove into the richness of life, the resilience of the human spirit, and how culture, creativity, and vulnerability guide us toward healing. He reminded us that beyond the external achievements, what truly shapes us is the courage to look inward.

From the moment Arick Gevorkian began to speak, the energy shifted. His voice carried the gravity of experience and the softness of reflection. We explored how poetry can be a mirror to the soul and a catalyst for transformation. Arick shared how, even in the face of political unrest, loss, and personal upheaval, the human spirit remains unbroken when we learn to transmute our pain into expression. He shared his heart-wrenching story Chronicles of a parent, One Night, One Mistake.

He spoke of the Armenian diaspora and what it means to belong—to a place, to a people, to a purpose. For those of us on a journey of healing, his story is a reminder that identity is not about what we’ve lost, but what we carry forward. And in every word he offered, there was an invitation: to be present, to be honest, to live and speak from the heart.

What resonated most was his belief that diplomacy, like healing, begins with listening. In my own work, I often say that our breath is the first bridge between mind and body. Arick offered this same bridge in poetic form, connecting language, emotion, and the human experience.

As we closed our conversation, I was reminded once more that healing is not a destination—it’s a daily practice of returning to truth. Of standing in grace. Of choosing to live boldly, even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s uncomfortable.
